Balancing the salty, tangy, and savory flavors is key for a delicious prime rib.

Salt enhances the bison's taste and helps form a flavorful crust. Tangy elements, like garlic and mustard, add depth to the flavor profile. Savory herbs and spices complement the meat's richness without overshadowing it.

Getting these flavors right in your prime rib rub ensures every bite is flavorful and enjoyable. The recipe below does just that!

You can make the rub ahead of time if you want and store it in a mason jar or an air-tight container.

Perfect Prime Rib Dry Rub

Ingredients

  • 1 Bison Prime Rib

  • 1 tbsp black pepper
  • 1 tbsp smoked paprika
  • 1 tbsp mustard powder
  • 1 tbsp granulated garlic- NOT garlic salt
  • 1 tbsp rosemary fresh, chopped or dried
  • 1 tbsp thyme fresh or dried

  • 1 tbsp pink Himalayan or kosher salt

  • 2 tsp onion powder

Directions

  1. Place all ingredients into a bowl or container and mix well to combine.

  2. Spread generously on your prime rib, ensuring you cover the roast evenly
  3. An alternative method is to blend 1 stick (½ cup) of unsalted butter with the rub mixture, then coat the entire prime rib with it. As it cooks, the butter will baste the meat, adding extra flavor to the prime rib.
